Batik is a timeless Indonesian art form where an exquisite motif is hand drawn onto a length of fabric in hot wax and then dyed. The process is repeated several times to create different colours and it can take many months to complete a single piece. The art of batik is considered a heritage of ancient Java and the different designs are symbolic of the culture, history and lifestyle of this unique destination.

Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs resist dyeing on the yarns prior to dyeing and weaving the fabric. In ikat the resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with a tight wrapping applied in the desired pattern. The yarns are then dyed. The bindings may then be altered to create a new pattern and the yarns dyed again with another colour and his process may be repeated multiple times.
